Dermatophytosis, Ringworm

Dermatophytosis (tinea, ringworm) is an infection of keratinized structures, such as the hair, skin or nails caused by dermatophyte fungi of the genera Trichophyton, Epidermophyton or Microsporum. Tinea capitis, tinea pedis and onychomycosis are common dermatologic diseases that may result from such an infection. Dermatophytes are transmitted by direct contact with infected individuals, animals and soil or by indirect contact with contaminated fomites.
